I love playing hardcore characters in Diablo, but I'd never have a risk of playing hardcore in d4 gold.

Before I threw in the towel on Diablo 3 permanently some years back, I tried playing a hardcore character to ascertain if it would reinvigorate my fascination with the game - also it totally worked. Playing a hardcore character practically turns Diablo right into a different game. Those were memorable experiences that I enjoyed, plus they wouldn’t happen to be as meaningful when they didn’t result in such a fateful way. Not to get too existential, but there’s beauty inside a hero’s death. It can feel great to say goodbye, even when it hurts.

That said, I’ve been pushed to my breaking point by hardcore. A hardcore character’s life might be fleeting, but like a player, I have an expectation that the sport is going to experience fair. I need to realize that if my character dies, it’s because I did something wrong, not because something happened which was outside of my control. No one wants to feel robbed or cheated simply because they lost their character as a result of a bug or perhaps a server issue, that is exactly why I’m never going to experience a hardcore character in Diablo 4.

I’ve had some pretty serious lag the whole time I’ve played Diablo 4. I usually hit a snag anytime I zone from one area into a different one, but I’ll also stutter occasionally in dungeons. Not everyone has this issue, also it will probably improve for me with time, but that alone is sufficient to discourage me from playing hardcore right now. If the sport froze for 2 seconds and led to my character dying, it might ruin Diablo 4 for me personally.

That hasn’t stopped a lot of people, especially streamers, from playing hardcore characters though. Even people who aren’t experiencing lag have forfeited their characters because of other server-related issues, plus some of these problems have me convinced that it’s never likely to be safe to experience hardcore.

The first person to achieve level 100 within the hardcore race, cArn_, lost his character after 82 hours when his game briefly disconnected in the servers. Diablo 4 treats disconnect as death to be able to stop people from DCing once they know they’re going to die, if you have a service interruption unconditionally, even for a moment, leave behind your character.
