Following Landmark Second Amendment Decision, SCOTUS Overturns Appeals Court Decisions in 4 States
The Supreme Court followed up its June 23 landmark ruling that for the first time recognized a constitutional right to carry firearms in public for self-defense, by issuing a series of rulings June 30 reversing federal appeals court decisions that upheld gun restrictions in California, New Jersey, Maryland, and Hawaii. Courts will find it difficult to uphold the firearms laws in question [...]

Military Looks For AI To Replace Decision-Making On Battlefield
When a suicide bomber attacked Kabul International Airport in August last year, the death and destruction was overwhelming: The violence left 183 people dead, including 13 U.S. soldiers. This kind of mass casualty event can be particularly daunting for field workers. Hundreds of people need care, the hospitals nearby have limited room, and decisions on who gets care first and who can wait [...]

  • In a direct democracy people must reach an agreement over public policies and implement them.
The agreement should be based on rational discussions, which implies respect for basic individual human rights: free speech, free assembly, free movement, free economic entrepreneurship and the right to bear arms.
Freedom comes with responsibility, freedom of choice implies the risk of making bad decisions.

However, when people delegate their sovereignty to a group of individuals, then it is certain that decisions will be bad. Human nature and basic motivation ensure that masters will do anything they can to control their slaves.

Some thoughts on the Gab hack. First off, Andrew Torba seems like a well intentioned man and Gab seems like the least bad of centralized platform, at least in its intentions. The problem though, is that centralization is always the weak link.
It is the weak link with censorship. It is easy to pressure a centralized entity. It is easy to cut off their servers (Parler). Brian Acton of Whatsapp was a very well intentioned person who sold out his users for a few billion dollars to far less well intentioned ones.
But centralization is also very horrible for security. No matter how much effort you put into security, the stash of all that data sitting on central servers is going to be breached sooner or later. And in the case of an overstretched entity like Gab, under attack from everywhere, the breach happened sooner. But that is not their fault. It is just that in the centralized paradigm your passwords and personal data is stored in one big place. If it is not breached from outside, it will be sold from inside.

And here we get to the main driving force behind Pocketnet. There are simply no centralized servers to breach. Each user has their own private keys, they are not stored in one central place.
There are no central servers requiring Amazon's AWS computing power, they can go to hell, because our users run nodes that power the network. And with some recent releases notice that a decentralized network does not need to be slow. In fact, it is more scalable than centralized ones in some respects. And it can be faster than them.
You have made a right decision to join Pocketnet, because in the centralized world things will get hairier by the day. Even for well intentioned entities.

P.S. Over the next two months we are releasing a treasure trove of features. But we are also putting a huge focus on our referral program. Note that right now you will get a bonus of 20% of Pocketcoin earnings for anyone you invite over (and that does not mean they get any less). We have redone the way posts are shared. You can also go to your profile in the upper right and click Share. Share to your email contacts, your social networks contacts, everyone. We don't have VCs to power user acquisition, so this network will survive only if each one of your promotes it to friends. Onward in defense of freedom of communication!
